Happy Thanksgivukkah!

Found on Pinterest

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you that are celebrating it today. I'm home from college so I'm extremely grateful to be with my family. Life isn't always great, but I still have a lot to be thankful for regardless. My family and friends mean the world to me so I am eternally grateful for them. Count your blessings everyone today and always! And may the odds be ever in your favor if you're braving Black Friday tomorrow!

If you're celebrating two holidays today, happy Thanksgivukkah! I love Jewish food (mmmm hamantaschen!), and one of my closest friends is Jewish so I know a thing or two about Hanukkah. If you don't know how awesome Thanksgivukkah could be, you have to read this. Challah stuffing anyone??

Whatever you're celebrating today, have an awesome one! Every day may not be good, but there's something good about every day. :)

Tako's Korean BBQ Tacos

From the top: chicken, pulled pork, and bulgogi tacos! And Sac Food Co-Op's veggie juice.
I feel incredibly bad for not talking about this place sooner, but better late than never, right? Last month, my friend and I went to Tako's Korean BBQ Tacos. We both love Korean BBQ so we were excited to try this Mexican-Korean fusion casual restaurant. I ordered 3 tacos, and I ordered the chicken, pulled pork, and bulgogi tacos to sort of sample the different meats that they have. My favorite was definitely the bulgogi taco followed by the pulled pork taco. Bulgogi is marinated steak, and it was cooked and complemented perfectly by their special purple house sauce. My friend and I think it might be a berry-based sauce because of the color and sweetness. The pulled pork taco was also delicious and very tender. It was the messiest to eat, but it was certainly worth it! The chicken taco was good, but it wasn't as impressive as the other meats. It was cooked well and it had the purple house sauce too, but I probably just wouldn't order it again. The tacos were $7, which was pretty reasonable for the amount and taste of the food.

My friend and I enjoyed trying our first Tako's experience, and we will definitely return when we're both home from college again. Next time, I'd like to try their nachos or burritos, and I hope they will be topped with that purple sauce too!

Summer '13 Break Pt. 1

I'm home from college this week so I've been resting and catching up with friends. Yesterday, I met up with a friend and had a great lunch at Sunflower Drive-In. It's a casual restaurant that serve delicious vegetarian fare, and they also have a good variety of food in their menu. Everything is under $10 so it's totally affordable and you get a lot of value for what you pay for. I ordered the nutburger, which was absolutely delicious! It was really filling as well, and it even kept me full for the remainder of the day. I highly recommend this food spot, and I'm excited to try other things on their menu.

Up close with my first nutburger!
After our lunch, we explored the area a bit, and we found a bridge over the American River. It was a nice day so people were out and about. We saw some people on boats, and there were also plenty of bikers around. What was even more fun and surprising were the number of chickens we saw roaming around. We got pretty close to some of them so of course I couldn't resist taking some pictures.

La Bonne Soup Cafe

I had the best lunch in a long time today. I was waiting for my mom to go on her break, and I looked up places to eat on Yelp. When I saw that La Bonne Soup Cafe was nearby, I instantly knew I had to have it. I've heard so many things about the place before so I was definitely excited to try it for myself.

The menu listed a pretty good variety of soups and sandwiches, and they also had some daily specials listed on a whiteboard by the counter. Everything sounded delicious so it was really hard to choose just one. I decided to try the Brie and prosciutto sandwich, and it was absolutely divine! It was so flavorful, and I think I need to start putting Brie in more of my sandwiches from now on. The ingredients tasted fresh, and I think even the bread was pretty special. I also enjoyed the sparkling French soda that I got on a whim. It wasn't overly sweet, and it was just the right amount.

I was very impressed by the quality and service of this cafe. The cafe is a one-man operation, but I beat the lunch rush so the service was fast and great. The ambiance was amazing and super French as French music played softly in the background and the smell of delicious food lingered in the air. I can't wait to go back and try more things already. I highly recommend this place!
