Sunday Social: Jobs

Sorry I've been MIA for a while, but I finally got internet in my apartment last Wednesday so blogging is much easier to do now. School started last Thursday so I was really busy figuring out my schedule and catching up with friends. Hopefully, I will be able to post more regularly so let's get back into this thing with a Sunday Social! :)

Sunday Social

This week's questions are job-related questions. At least they're not interview type of questions so that's a relief!

1. What is your dream job?
I don't actually have a dream job... is that weird? I guess if I'm being realistic, I would love to be a child psychologist or a book editor. I would love to work with children and psychology is super interesting for me. Then on the other hand, I'd love to be paid to read books and make revisions. This is a tough question!

2. If you had just won the lottery and didn't need to work for money, what would you do with your time?
I would travel the world, do a lot of community service, and finally get around to doing some pinterest-inspired crafts and recipes.

3. What piece of career advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?

I'm not currently in a career field because I'm still in college. I guess if I could give advice to new college freshmen it would be to start looking into internships to get work experience for your resume and to gain mentors for the field(s) that you are interested in.

4. What would be your ideal "just for fun" job?

I would love to be a baker for sure. I love baking so getting paid to do it would be really fun. Making up clever nail polish colors sound like a fun job too!

5. What was your first "real" job?
My first "real" job was working at Old Navy during the holiday season. I didn't mind working retail, but I had a bad experience with the management. I won't get into the specifics, but I still enjoyed the extra money I made during that holiday season and I still shop there.

Sunday Social: My Purse and Daily Essentials

Sunday Social
This week's questions are about purses, which is fun because I just cleaned out my purse (I had so many receipts that I have been accumulating since the beginning of time) and I'd love to share my essentials.

1. What is your favorite handbag you've ever owned?

I use this bag all the time. It's the perfect size to hold my stuff and extras, and I'm glad it's durable since it is still with me after all these years. I think I might have gotten it at Tilly's in high school or Pacsun since the brand is Billabong. The stud detailing on the outside is cool, and there's also a cool black and white tribal print on the inside.

My favorite and most used purse

2. What is your dream handbag you lust over?
I am completely smitten with the Chanel Quilted Leather Handbag! It's a classic, versatile purse that goes well with everything and anything. What's not to love, right?

3. What are the daily essentials in your purse or work bag?
I gotta have my lip balm, hand sanitizer, water bottle, keys, wallet, pen(s), gum or breath mints, granola bar (I always get hungry), my iPhone and phone charger, small makeup bag, and planner.

4. What's in your purse (with pictures)?

My purse is currently clean so this is a rare moment for me. Usually I have a lot more stuff, but I was running errands on Friday so I wanted to empty my purse and travel lightly. Right now (starting from the top left), I have: a Colgate wisp, Angry Birds band-aids, a nail cutter, the lemon EOS lip balm with SPF, a brush/mirror combo thingy, the grapefruit mint Hello breath spray, Hello Kitty blotting sheets, a Bath and Body Works Paris Amour lip gloss, a black pen, a Cleanwell hand sanitizer in orange vanilla, a Benadryl itch stick, Tums, my wallet, and my keys. I used my phone to take a picture of my purse stuff, but that was also in there. I'll give it a couple of more days until I get my whole life back in there.

Happy Fall! + The Autumn Tag

Happy first day of fall everyone! It rained today in my town so it added even more awesomeness in welcoming the first day of my favorite season. Fall is my favorite season because of the perfect crisp and cool weather, and it marks the beginning of the holiday season with Halloween, which is also one of my favorite holidays. I wasn't tagged by anyone, but I wanted to do these questions anyway. I saw this tag from Taylor's blog at The California College Student so check out her blog to see her answers as well!

View from my glass door today
For Autumn, what is your...
1. Favorite thing about it?
I already answered it in my intro above, but I don't mind gushing over it again. I love the cooler weather, the change in color of the leaves, any food item that is apple-related, the return of some of my favorite TV shows, and that cozy, comfy feeling!

2. Favorite drink?
I have not tried the deliciousness of PSL so I can't claim that as my favorite. I'm a hot cocoa and apple cider kind of girl, but I love my hot drinks (teas, white chocolate mochas, etc.) even more during the fall and winter in general.

3. Favorite scent/candle?
Love anything cinnamon!

4. Best lipstick?
I don't like to wear lipsticks, but I'm a lip balm junkie (no shame in that either). I love my Hurraw! balms all year!

5. Go to moisturizer?
I don't have a holy grail moisturizer, but I really enjoyed using the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream last winter. I got the 2 oz. size since I wasn't sure it would work for me, and I'm thankful that it did. I sometimes got this nasty dry spot near my eye area, and it did wonders moisturizing that area.

6. Go to colors for eyes?
I don't do much eye makeup, but I think brown and purple shades are beautiful in the fall.

7. Favorite music or band/singer to listen to?
Mumford and Sons and Jack Johnson are my favorites, but The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack deserves some honorable mention as well, especially with the song below. In case you were wondering, I have been listening to the soundtrack while typing up this post. Yep, I'm obsessed.

8. Favorite outfit to wear?
I love wearing my sweaters, scarves, and moccasins everywhere. Comfort is a must, and fuzzy socks are also life necessities.

9. Autumn treat (i.e. a new scarf or bag you have your eye on)?
I recently splurged on my first Dogeared jewelry piece, and I'm obsessed with it! I will definitely be wearing it a lot this season (and pretty much the rest of my life too).

Isn't she a beauty?

10. Favorite place to be?
I love Apple Hill! I already talked a little bit about it in my first Sunday Social post, but here is the link to that if you don't know what I'm talking about.

Those are all the questions, and I'm tagging YOU if you're reading this far into the post. I hope all of you are loving fall like I know I will! :)

Empties #2: Moving Out Part 2

Here's part 2 of my mini moving out series. There's a lot to talk about like last time so let's just get started.

  • Cetaphil Daily Facial Moisturizer SPF 15 - This face moisturizer was okay. It had a little bit of a white cast because it had SPF so I didn't like that much, but it wasn't too bad overall. I probably wouldn't repurchase to try other moisturizers.
  • Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel* - I liked this moisturizer, especially for its gel formulation. It's lightweight, but I didn't find it super hydrating. I don't think I will repurchase since I prefer another moisturizer.
  • Philosophy Take a Deep Breath* - I LOVE this moisturizer! It's a gel, oil-free formula, which worked perfectly on my skin, and the light turquoise color was a nice bonus. It was easy to apply and it sinks under the skin immediately and keeps it hydrated for the whole day. I would repurchase this after I go through my current stash of skincare.
  • Lush Ocean Salt* - Even though I used up this sample size here, I also own the full size pot because I like face scrub a lot. It might be harsh for some people, but it's fine for my skin. I only use this for my face because I like its brightening effect. It also smells really good. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's a clean, summery scent. I probably wouldn't repurchase it for the price, but I really enjoyed this product!
  • Acure Organics Oil Control Facial Moisturizer* - I received a tiny sample of this so I was only able to get one use out of it. I liked the moisturizer, but I don't think it helped control any of my oiliness. I don't think I'll purchase the full size, but I would like to try more of it again in the future.

Summer '13 Break Pt. 1

I'm home from college this week so I've been resting and catching up with friends. Yesterday, I met up with a friend and had a great lunch at Sunflower Drive-In. It's a casual restaurant that serve delicious vegetarian fare, and they also have a good variety of food in their menu. Everything is under $10 so it's totally affordable and you get a lot of value for what you pay for. I ordered the nutburger, which was absolutely delicious! It was really filling as well, and it even kept me full for the remainder of the day. I highly recommend this food spot, and I'm excited to try other things on their menu.

Up close with my first nutburger!
After our lunch, we explored the area a bit, and we found a bridge over the American River. It was a nice day so people were out and about. We saw some people on boats, and there were also plenty of bikers around. What was even more fun and surprising were the number of chickens we saw roaming around. We got pretty close to some of them so of course I couldn't resist taking some pictures.

Sunday Social: My Blog

Sunday Social

1. What is the name of your blog?
My blog is called simple paper wings, and I got the name from my recent obsession with angel wings.

2. What do you love most about blogging?
Since I'm new at blogging, I love just gathering ideas for blog posts and looking for inspiration from other blogs or pinterest.

3. Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because I wanted to have some sort of a creative outlet for my life, and I thought it might be fun to have like an archive of stuff I love or things that have been going on in my life.

4. What is something you’d want to tell someone just starting out in the blog world?
Don't think, just do it! :) Honestly, I've thought about starting this blog for a long time now, and I'm glad I finally took the plunge. It's still a work in progress, but I think it'll come together in time hopefully.

5. Biggest blogging learning experience you’ve had?
So far, I've found it really helpful to jot down ideas as I stumble upon a topic that I might want to blog about eventually. There have been many times where I opened a new blog post page and got writer's block, which is really awful. Now, I have a short list of ideas I can refer to if I need a little starting point.

6. What are three blogs you love?
These are my current favorites, and I highly recommend them!

That Girl Magazine
Pure Makeup
Becoming Minimalist

Wednesday Wisdom

I love this empowering quote. It's nice to keep in mind for busy times during the school year. My last final is tomorrow, and I'm excited to enjoy what's left of summer. I aced my Psych/Human Development final today so I just have to focus for a bit longer and I can celebrate after! On that note, I'm trying to believe in myself and I hope you can believe in yourself too. :)

Sunday Social: It's Almost Fall!

Sunday Social

I love seeing this blog link up around the blogosphere so I'm excited to finally join in on the fun. This week's questions are about fall time stuff, and I love the fall season so I'm really excited about this!

1. What is your favorite fall activity?
I love going decorating the house with fall decorations and making arts and crafts that gets me really into the spirit of the season. Of course, I also love everything about Halloween!

2. Do you follow a football team? If so, which one and why?
I don't follow a football team since I don't really like the sport in general, but I love to silently root for the SF 49ers. NorCal pride all the way!

3. What is something fun about fall in your area?
In El Dorado Hills, there's an area called Apple Hill where they have apple-picking, harvest items to purchase, and many vendors and farms selling delicious food, especially so many things related to apples! It has always been fun in the past so I hope I can also visit this year. The pictures below are some pictures that I took last year.
Lots of yummy apples!

La Bonne Soup Cafe

Artwork by the Bathroom
Another Bathroom Artwork
I had the best lunch in a long time today. I was waiting for my mom to go on her break, and I looked up places to eat on Yelp. When I saw that La Bonne Soup Cafe was nearby, I instantly knew I had to have it. I've heard so many things about the place before so I was definitely excited to try it for myself.

The menu listed a pretty good variety of soups and sandwiches, and they also had some daily specials listed on a whiteboard by the counter. Everything sounded delicious so it was really hard to choose just one. I decided to try the Brie and prosciutto sandwich, and it was absolutely divine! It was so flavorful, and I think I need to start putting Brie in more of my sandwiches from now on. The ingredients tasted fresh, and I think even the bread was pretty special. I also enjoyed the sparkling French soda that I got on a whim. It wasn't overly sweet, and it was just the right amount.

I was very impressed by the quality and service of this cafe. The cafe is a one-man operation, but I beat the lunch rush so the service was fast and great. The ambiance was amazing and super French as French music played softly in the background and the smell of delicious food lingered in the air. I can't wait to go back and try more things already. I highly recommend this place!

Wednesday Wisdom

A few months ago, I was really into the idea of finding happiness and being truly happy. I was so unhappy with life that I knew I had to make some changes. Life is hard, but I think some parts of it can be in your control, especially when it comes to to your happiness. Life is short so it's important to just let yourself be happy once in a while. If you can find joy in the smallest things, make a point to do it more often. Take away some of the negativity, and just be happy starting now.

Empties #1: Moving Out Part 1

This is basically a "trash talk" post. If you watch beauty gurus on YouTube, then you might be familiar with empties. In short, it's a review of products someone has used up over a period of time, and you can also mention if you will repurchase it in the future. I love watching and reading this type of product reviews so I wanted to do my own twist on it.

Since I was moving apartments this summer, I made a really strict plan to use up the products and samples in my stash in the past few months so I will have less stuff to pack and move. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty proud of myself for finishing up A LOT of products since my bathroom cabinets were beginning to get out of hand. This will be like a small series since I finished so many things, and breaking them up in smaller parts seems like a pretty good idea. There will be three more posts after this one so please bear with me!

  • Up & Up Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes - These makeup wipes were decent, but they stung my eyes badly. These are not my favorite wipes so I probably won't repurchase.
  • CVS Makeup Remover Wipes - I was disappointed by these because I like their eye makeup remover that comes in a bottle and these just didn't work too well in removing makeup or cleansing your face. Definitely won't repurchase.
  • Philosophy Happy Birthday, Beautiful! Sephora Birthday Freebie - This smelled like cupcake or cake batter, and I loved it since I'm a fan of sweet scents. I used it is a shower gel, and it worked pretty well.
  • Philosophy Total Matteness* - I was really excited to try this because I talked to a salesperson at a Philosophy counter about them and she really hyped this up for me. They worked pretty well for the most part, and I just used it for my t-zone because that's where I'm usually oily. It's not as long-lasting as my Clinique Pore Perfector so I probably wouldn't repurchase it, especially for the price. I don't mind splurging on products that I really love, but I don't think this is worth it.

Hello and a little introduction! :)

Hello blogosphere! Some call me Angie, and I'm a 21 year old college senior at UC Davis. I live in northern California, and I love traveling and exploring random towns and cities. I live for cold, rainy weather even though I live in one of the sunniest places ever. My family mainly consists of me, my younger brother, my mom, and my grandmother, who lives in the Philippines. I am half Filipino and half Chinese; I love that I have the best of both worlds when it comes to food! My favorite color is blue, and I try to stay away from things that are pink. I don't have any pets, but I'm a proud owner of two panda pillow pets! :D

So I'm starting this blog because I'm an internet addict, and I'm always finding cool things on the internet, including awesome blogs that have really inspired me to create my own space. I just wanted to make a place where I can share my life, thoughts, musings, and obsessions. I love to talk about food, baking, books, movies, TV shows, pop culture, shopping (I love Trader Joe's and Target!!!), beauty, travel (love anything French!), health, wellness, pandas (cute animals in general really), crafts, natural lifestyle, social media, and more! I'm not the best writer (writing feels like it takes all of my soul sometimes - jokes, sorta not really...), but I hope I can improve on that with this blog. And I really hope I can also make some friends along the way who have similar interests as me so please leave me some comments or ask me any questions. I'd love to get to know y'all out there, and I think you should get to know me too. :)
